When a farmhouse in Toulouse, France, was burgled several years ago, the thieves even took empty perfume bottles in the thought they could bring a little bit of cash. They passed by a dusty old painting that had been sitting in a corner for more than a hundred years. The painting has been restored. Why bother to restore a dusty old painting? It’s a “lost” Caravaggio painted in 1607. It will be auctioned in London, and it’s estimated it will sell for 129 million pounds (US$171 million).
