Saluting

Many law enforcement officers are ex-military, and some are still reservists. To meet their reserve requirements, they have to take time off from their regular jobs periodically for training. Denver, Colo., sheriff’s deputy Matthew Jeremiah Pemberton, 25, took periodic paid leave for training, backed up by orders from the U.S. Army. But the department got suspicious about those orders when someone noticed the dates on them used the “Wingdings” font — the orders were allegedly forged. Pemberton is charged with multiple felonies, including theft (of his wages), computer crime, forgery of government documents, criminal impersonation to gain benefit, and attempting to influence a public servant.
