“It was waking me up in the night,” said a mother in Ipswich, England. “It was absolutely terrifying.” Finally, around midnight, she called local authorities asking they do something about the distant singing of the nursery rhyme “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring” that was haunting her. Officials determined that it emanated from a loudspeaker at an industrial facility, and a spokesman for the business said the speaker had been set up with a motion detector to deter thieves. “The motion sensors were being triggered by spiders crawling across the lenses of our cameras,” he said, “and it looks like we’ve had it turned up too loudly.” The volume will be turned down, and the unnamed woman said the business agreed to call her and check it was OK.
