The Smoke-Filled Room

When Debbie Matthews applied for a license from Glendale, Colo., to open a marijuana store called the Smokin Gun, the city council tied in its approval vote. Mayor Mike Dunafon recused himself from breaking the tie because Matthews was his girlfriend. But later, he went ahead and broke the tie, voting to issue her the license. Matthews isn’t Dunafon’s girlfriend anymore: she’s now his wife. Colorado Ethics Watch has filed an ethics complaint against the mayor, but Glendale city attorney Jeff Springer says the complaint “is much ado about nothing” because the couple wasn’t married at the time of the vote. The pot shop is next door to Shotgun Willie’s, an infamous strip club Matthews also owns. (RC/Denver Post) ...The ideal wife for a guy like that used to be a stripper who owned a liquor store, but that was before pot was legal.
