This Phone Is Dead

Cellular provider Verizon Wireless claimed Robert Able used 234 gigabytes of mobile data in October. The Grantville, S.C., 72-year-old says he never goes over 12 gigabytes, the amount on his monthly plan. He tried talking to a Verizon representative about the $3,357.96 charge, but he wasn’t satisfied with the results. “I told him that I’m done with this phone, and I grabbed my gun” — and downloaded a round of birdshot into the phone. He also complained to the media, the police, and the Federal Communications Commission. Eventually, Verizon waived the charges.
