This Story Stinks

Students at the University of Canberra (Australia) library were evacuated after “reports of a strong smell of gas.” An hour later, “We are open!” the library said on Facebook. “The lingering gas-like smell in the building is completely safe — someone left a durian fruit in one of our bins!” Durians are a large (up to a foot long) southeast Asian fruit with a pungent smell so strong it’s banned in Singapore’s subways. This particular one was left in a trash bin — near an air vent. Even after it was removed, the smell lingered for a while. “[I]t’s not appropriate student conduct if they did it on purpose,” the Facebook post said, “and lack of common sense if they didn’t.” (MS/Canberra Times, CNN) ...For university students, it could be both.
