Uh Oh, Marshmallow
When 8 year old Dorothy Widen took her family’s dog, Marshmallow, for a walk, someone noticed — and called the police. Wilmette, Ill., cops didn’t refer anyone for criminal prosecution, but the state’s Department of Children and Family Services launched an investigation. Apparently a girl walking a dog might mean she was being neglected. The Chicago Tribune reported the story, and it went viral — the investigation was over quickly. But Dorothy’s mother, Corey, said she might not have gotten the same result if she hadn’t reached out to journalists and an attorney she knew.
