Was it Pedestrian Season?
Noah Popovich, 11, was walking to his Texas City, Texas, school when an SUV came up behind him and struck him so hard a piece of the vehicle came off. Police arrived, investigated, and didn’t give the driver a ticket — they gave one to Popovich, who resumed walking. Police Chief Robert Burby explained that even though the boy had been hit from behind, Popovich was violating the law by walking with his back to traffic. A judge has granted the fifth-grader a jury trial. “I don’t want that petty crap on his record,” said Popovich’s mother, Ashley Falks. “Secondly, I have $10,000 in medical bills that can be denied by the insurance company if the case isn’t dismissed or if he isn’t found not guilty.” (AC/Galveston County Daily News) ...Never get between a mother and her insurance claim.Original Publication Date: 15 January 2012
