100,000 Watts, Bulb’s Still Dim

Greenville, S.C., disk jockey Paul Breakfield, 30, known on WFBC-FM as “Tom Steele”, has been convicted of reckless driving after an on-air publicity stunt. A blindfolded Breakfield drove a radio station van along city streets — and Interstate 385 — as a “tribute” to blind musician Ray Charles. A producer in the passenger seat directed him around obstacles. The DJ was ordered to pay a $200 fine and perform 240 hours of community service, a sentence Breakfield complained was “harsh.” (RC/AP) ...Not harsh enough: the judge should make him wear the blindfold around his mouth for that time instead.
