Breaking In

Rev. Ernestine Holloway is running for a seat in the Connecticut House of Representatives, but a trooper questioned some of her campaign volunteers — and, when she went to investigate, Holloway herself. “The trooper said they had a complaint that someone was trying to break into their house,” she said. And when she explained what her team was doing, the trooper asked whether she had a “peddler’s permit.” Middlefield officials said she didn’t need one, but Holloway got one anyway. Holloway, who was pulled over the next day in her campaign van, thinks she’s been “profiled.” State police said they are investigating, but the trooper, Larry Morello, has already lost one “job”: he was fired as a volunteer driver for a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor.
