Bullying Day

Twelve years ago, after a Canadian boy wore pink to school and got bullied for it, Pink Shirt Day was created to oppose bullying by embracing diversity. Helensville Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand, got into the spirit by allowing its students a diverse range of clothing options on the day: their regular uniform or pink. “It was pink day, so we sent the kids to school wearing as much pink as we could find,” said Claire Lealiifano. “Obviously having a couple of boys, they don’t have as much pink.” Her son did “find a top which had pink all over the back,” but this wasn’t enough for one teacher, who sent him home to put on his uniform. The school’s board confirmed that “something” happened, and said it was “exploring” the issue: “We need time to follow due process.” (AC/Newshub New Zealand) ...Shouldn’t that time have come before the student was sent home?
