“We were joking about we’re going way too fast to be coming into this,” said ferry passenger Gavin Martz, “and immediately after we stopped joking about it we smashed into the first piling and we deflect into the actual port itself.” Dozens of people on the pier waiting for the 750-seat ferry to arrive in San Francisco, Calif., had enough time to pull out their phones to get photos and videos of the crash, the latter capturing the screams of people onboard and on the pier. The crash caused significant damage to the boat and the pier, and passengers and pier-based witnesses complained there was “no warning” of the impending crash.
