“When you’re taking a group of students, you don’t expect a Ferris wheel to come right at you,” said Laura Hogan, principal of the Mirus Academy in Katy, Texas. Yet there she was, on the bus with students headed to the Holocaust Museum Houston, when, as one student put it, “we look outside and there was a big blue thing rolling down the highway.” It was a giant spool. It had been traveling down Interstate 610 on a truck; it was now traveling without the truck. It was the fourth big spool caught on a Houston area highway without a truck in three months.
