It sounded like a job for the New York City Police Department’s elite Emergency Service Unit: callers from upper Manhattan were reporting a tiger (or something similar) loose on the street. Officers were duly sent; they apprehended the animal and caged it. The beast was turned over to the Animal Care Centers of New York, which euthanized it because it was a potential rabies vector.
