Florida Ready for Florida Man
Willie Maurice Floyd of Pensacola, Fla., got a three year jail sentence for driving when his license had been revoked or suspended — more than a dozen times. But he argued on appeal that his driver’s license had never been revoked — because he’d never had one. “A learner’s permit,” he argued, “is not a driver’s license.” Unfortunately for him, in Florida, it is: It’s legally called a “learner’s driver license.” Therefore, the appeals court ruled, he did in fact have a license, it was revoked, and his conviction stands. But by the time the appeals process was over, his sentence was over anyway. (AC/Pensacola News Journal) ...And he was probably back on the road.Original Publication Date: 25 November 2018
