Hotfoot
Dozens of attendees at Tony Robbins’ “Unleash the Power Within” seminar in Dallas, Texas, suffered burned feet and legs after participating in a walk over a 15-foot path of hot coals; five needed hospital treatment. The burned people didn’t have the proper focus, said Pujan Patel, who completed the walk without injury. “But there’s always going to be 1 percent of people who are idiots,” he said. Stephanie Campbell, the burn program manager at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, says “Coal-walking is not an activity that we would ever recommend. We don’t believe there is any safe way to do it.” Still, most of the motivational speaker’s 7,000 attendees did it without injury.
