In 2015, when Richard Salamon was promoted to City Manager of Sunrise City, Fla., he said his primary concern would be to “stay out of the news.” Recently, Salamon tried to use a coupon to get a $3.99 mini Bundt cake for free at a bakery. The coupon he presented was expired, he was told — and Salamon turned “nasty,” demanding the employee “break the rules” and give him a free cake. The employee apparently declined. “This is a little bit of a black eye on us,” said city commissioner Larry Sofield. “This is not what we are about at all.” Commissioner Mark Douglas agrees, and has called for Salamon to resign. Salamon is paid $204,000 per year. “I can’t believe a $4 coupon has got us here today,” Sofield said.
