ID vs Ego

David Menser, 51, walked into a Columbus, Ohio, bank and handed a teller a note. It said he had a gun, and demanded money, police say. The teller turned over a stack of cash with a dye pack. Menser was too smart for that: he took the money but threw the dye pack back at the teller, and demanded more money. The teller explained that no more money would come out of the machine without a driver’s license. So Menser handed over his own license, which the teller swiped through the machine’s card reader, releasing more cash, which she handed over. The bank, of course, gave the police the information from the license, and Menser was arrested, charged with aggravated robbery. Plus, he has been connected to at least four other robberies in the area. “This is rare but not unheard of,” said detective Brad Thomas. “I’ve seen it a couple of other times.” (MS/Columbus Dispatch) ...New security idea for banks: Require ID swipes just to enter.
