Rainer Schimpf, 51, was diving and photographing sharks off the shores of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Then the water churned around him and everything went dark. Thankfully, it wasn’t a shark eating him. “I instantly knew it was a whale,” Schimpf said. “Had it been a shark it would have been two of me and I don’t think that I would have seen anything again.” Luckily, the Bryde’s whale was hungry for large fish and plankton and spit Schimpf out. Photographer Heinz Toperczer was able to capture footage of the incident, which was posted online. “Gee, it is quite the tale to tell,” Schmipf said. “I was spat out by a whale.” (MS/9News New South Wales) ...Call him Ishmael.Original Publication Date: 24 March 2019
