Look Over There!
The sports governing body Fédération Internationale de Football Association — better known as FIFA, which governs soccer — has issued its new Code of Ethics after yet another corruption scandal, this time over awarding the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar. Nine FIFA officials were indicted for racketeering, wire fraud, and money laundering after that decision. FIFA’s new policy has now completely erased corruption by removing the word from its Code of Ethics in secret meetings. While they were at it, they added a new “crime” — defamation of FIFA and its officials — and added loopholes that make it easier for officials to keep serving after “Bribery, misappropriation of funds and manipulation of football matches or competitions...”. Last year, after ousting most of the ethics committee, FIFA president Gianni Infantino declared FIFA “is a transparent organization” and “a deeply honest organization.” (RC/ABC Australia) ...And sure enough, their motives are embarrassingly transparent.Original Publication Date: 19 August 2018
