Misremembering the Ladies
That “all humans are created equal,” Thomas Jefferson didn’t write. But that’s how one Mesa, Ariz., 4th-grade class was told to recite the Declaration of Independence. Elizabeth Vaillancourt took offense at the politically correct correction that was hung in her son’s classroom. The principal’s first response to her complaint, she said, was that her “Facebook post hurt the teacher’s feelings,” but Vaillancourt’s child was switched to another class. A district spokeswoman said the teacher had been told to put the Declaration back the way the Second Continental Congress passed it. Meanwhile, Vaillancourt said she also objected to other gender-neutral language that made LGBT people seem normal.
