Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the deputy prime minister and interior minister of the United Arab Emirates, has a new title: Best Personality for Supporting Gender Balance. That was one of three awards presented at the 2018 Gender Balance Index. “Gender balance has become a pillar in our governmental institutions,” said an official tweet. No awards were presented to women, although the men who accepted two of the awards did so on behalf of institutions. Two thirds of the UAE’s government employees are women, and a woman did win an award at the first Gender Balance Index, in 2017.
