Not Quite Foolproof

Randall Trent Butler, 23, of Sanford, N.C., was proud of his new pistol, and showed it to his friends. “He was showing them how if the safety was on how you could pull the trigger and it wouldn’t fire,” said Capt. Jeff Johnson of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “He had held it up to his head and pulled the trigger and it went ‘click’ but it didn’t go off.” His friends, including his girlfriend, told him to stop, but he did it again after activating the slide. To do that, he had to disengage the safety, so when he put the gun to his head again and pulled the trigger, it went off. He was killed. (RC/Fayetteville Observer) ...The #1 gun safety device is the user’s brain. In this case, it was defective.
