Out of Season

An unidentified man from Helena, Mont., called the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff to report being shot at. He was on public land when a bullet hit the dirt to his left, then another hit to his right, and he ran for cover. He says he was able to confront the shooter in a black pickup truck, and demand to know why he was shooting at him. “I thought you were Bigfoot,” the 27-year-old man says the shooter told him. “I don’t target practice, but if I see something that looks like Bigfoot, I just shoot at it.” When the victim told the man he is clearly not the mythical creature, he responded that the man should wear orange when in the wild — advice which the victim deemed a “good point.” When the report came out in the newspaper, a woman called the sheriff to say she was also shot at by a man in a black pickup. “We’re working to find this person,” said Sheriff Leo Dutton. “It is of great concern that this individual might think it’s OK to shoot at anything he thinks is Bigfoot.” (RC/Helena Independent Record, Idaho Statesman) ...Orange vest?
