Project Goes off Track
Streetcar manufacturer Inekon’s failure to keep its schedule has delayed the opening of Seattle’s First Hill line by two years, so the Washington city decided to try someone else for its First Avenue line. Officials placed a $52 million order last fall with CAF USA for 10 new streetcars. But it’s not clear whether the new, longer, heavier cars will fit in the city’s streetcar maintenance barn, or on the line’s existing tracks. Meanwhile the project is on hold as its finances are examined by accounting firm KPMG — whose report is behind schedule.
