Screwing the Taxpayers

The New York City Housing Authority has reassigned 40 staffers — and suspended two supervisors without pay for 30 days — after investigation showed that rather than working on problems in the buildings in its jurisdiction, employees were instead using the vacant apartments for alcohol-fueled “sex parties.” The malfeasance came to light because photos and videos of the goings on leaked to management — and the press. “It began with heat, lead paint, mold, [and] horrible conditions,” said Councilman Mark Gjonaj. “Now we are talking about sex, lies, pictures and potential videotape and a coverup.” To add insult to injury, the staffers were on the clock while partying, and sometimes even put in for overtime.
