Search Him

Jeff Hobby says he’s innocent. But hundreds of teenagers may be less so after being intimately touched in the course of a school-wide “drug search,” as ordered by Hobby — the Worth County (Ga.) Sheriff. His deputies allegedly felt boys’ and girls’ crotch areas and girls’ breasts, but didn’t find any drugs. Hobby has been indicted on charges of false imprisonment, and violation of his oath of office — both felonies. He’s also been charged with sexual battery, but that’s just a misdemeanor. (AC/Atlanta Journal-Constitution) ...Because violating your oath is a bigger deal than violating hundreds of teenagers.
Story Update: Hobby pled guilty in a plea deal, and was ordered to serve six months in jail time and five years’ probation. The county settled with affected students for $3 million, which was paid by insurance.
