A man and woman spent an hour in the electronics department of a Walmart store in Shelbyville, Tenn., arriving at 3:00 a.m. “Whenever someone would walk by,” said Shelbyville Police Detective Sgt. Sam Jacobs, “they would walk off and stay gone for a couple of minutes and return.” According to security camera video, whenever the coast was clear they’d load computer printer ink cartridges into a tote bag — which they stole — and, once full, they wheeled it out a side door that had no alarm on it. “Evidently, they have prior knowledge they can go out that door,” Jacobs said. The store says the couple stole 332 ink cartridges worth $11,427. The first theory was that the couple would use the cartridges to print counterfeit money, but the store said the cartridges were for multiple brands and types of printers. Not to mention they didn’t steal any paper. So now investigators aren’t sure of the motive. “Bizarre is the only way I can describe it,” Jacobs said.
