Suddenly, So Serious

The Joker and Harley Quinn — people dressed as them, that is — were getting it on at a nightclub party for costumed swingers when Victoria, Australia, police came in and shot them. Police claimed the Joker cosplayer pointed a gun at them, but nightclub security denied that he was even holding it — and in any event, the gun he had was a fake: all costumes were screened on entry. A police official claimed officers ordered the man to drop his gun before firing theirs, and said she thought the officers acted properly. But there will be an investigation, standard practice when police shoot people. The cosplayers were both taken to hospitals: she with injuries that did not endanger her life, he at first in critical condition, although he was subsequently rendered stable.
