The Deschutes County (Ore.) Sheriff’s Office put out a missing person alert for Jeremy Taylor, 36, of Sunriver, and his dog, Allie. Taylor disappeared in snowy weather and hadn’t been seen in days. On day 5, a snowmobiler came forward to say he had seen an SUV matching Taylor’s vehicle description on a forest service road, stuck in the snow, and a deputy went in on a snowcat to check. He found Taylor and Allie hungry, but in good condition. Taylor said he tried to hike out, but the snow was too deep. They kept warm by running the engine now and then, and had sustained themselves by eating some leftover packets of taco sauce in the SUV. That’s where an amazed Cable News Network reporter picked up the story: “It is not clear how he, or the dog, got water,” CNN’s Amir Vera reported.
