The Beatings Are Almost Beat
The number of counties in North Carolina allowing corporal punishment in schools is now down to exactly one. There were two, but the Robeson County Board of Education voted 6 5 to end the practice — against parents’ wishes. The State Board of Education came out against spanking and paddling, but state law leaves it up to individual school systems to decide. Corporal punishment is still allowed in Graham County, and 18 other states continue the practice that the American Psychological Association has come out against after research showed that it “instills hostility, rage and a sense of powerlessness without reducing undesirable behavior.” (MS/Raleigh News & Observer) ...If it was effective we’d be using it on our political leaders.Original Publication Date: 26 August 2018
