The Italian Yob
Apparently wanting to re-create a scene in the movie The Italian Job (unclear whether it was the 2003 remake, or the better one from 1969), where thieves escape the police by driving away the loot in Mini Cooper cars, a man stole a Mini in Morpeth, Northumberland, England, and ran it down a stone staircase in a park — a staircase way too narrow for even a Mini to get through. A staircase so narrow that there was no way to get the doors open to escape. After being rescued by fire crews, the unnamed 31-year-old was taken to jail. (RC/Newcastle Chronicle) ...“Hang on, lads; I've got a great idea.” —Charlie (Michael Caine) in the original movie.Original Publication Date: 25 March 2018
