This Nearly Got Complicated

The defendant was acquitted — and the juror wasn’t even charged. But he probably could have been. A domestic-violence case was wrapping up when a Tarrant County, Texas, deputy brought the judge a note. A lawyer had swapped her walking shoes for heels and forgotten the shoes; a man had looked around a bit, and then took her shoes. It was all on video — and the suspect was one of the jurors in the judge’s D.V. case. When the issue was raised, the juror surrendered the shoes.
