Three members of a family were convicted in what conservation agents called one of Missouri’s largest deer poaching cases ever. “It is unknown how many deer the main group of suspects has taken illegally over the past several years,” said Lawrence County Conservation Agent Andy Barnes. “It would be safe to say that several hundred deer were taken illegally.” They weren’t eating them: “The deer were trophy bucks taken illegally, mostly at night, for their heads, leaving the bodies of the deer to waste,” the prosecutor said. David Berry Sr., David Berry Jr., and Kyle Berry received varying sentences, but Lawrence County Judge Robert George’s special addition for David Jr. may be the most apropos. Each month of his sentence, Berry “is to view the Walt Disney movie Bambi” at least once.
