Too Cool for Schools
A student tweeted to his school district that he wanted them to “close school tammarow PLEASE”. Frederick County (Va.) Public Schools responded: “But then how would you learn how to spell ‘tomorrow’? :)” The reply was posted by Katie Nash, the web coordinator and social-media manager the district had recently hired. The Twitterverse responded with appreciation to “#KatiefromFCPS” with thousands of “Likes” and retweets, but FCPS wasn’t so appreciative: Michael Doerrer, who heads the school district’s “communications and marketing” effort, ordered Nash’s reply deleted, and she was fired.
