Two Balls, Two Strikes

Michael Walters, 52, of Manchester, N.J., was due to be arrested for allegedly stealing over $6,500. Walters, manager and treasurer for a 10 and under baseball team, was accused of stealing money from the team’s account. “The information about the theft came to their attention after learning that Walters was unable to make payment to a winner of one of the team’s fundraisers,” said Manchester Police Capt. Todd Malland. But on the day he was due to be arrested, Walters showed up at the police station to say he’d made good on his debt after having “come into a large amount of cash.” Officers were suspicious, since they’d just heard about a bank robbery in nearby Berkeley, and “thought it unusual that this large amount of cash and the bank robbery occurred about the same time in the same general area.” Officers got a warrant and searched Walters’ car, where they discovered items connected to the robbery.
