We Protest

Rioting, looting, and arson in London spread to several other cities in England after the police shooting of a so-called “gangsta gunman.” More than 3,000 rioters were arrested; five people died from the riots, and property damage is estimated at over 200 million pounds (US$331 million). Meanwhile, other citizens used social media to help identify and turn in rioters, and to organize clean-up areas. That led to the humiliation of some rioters, for instance Alexis Bailey, 31, of Croydon, an elementary school tutor who was caught looting an electronics store. He pled guilty to burglary and was released pending sentencing. He was so embarrassed that as he left the court, he covered his face with a newspaper — and walked directly into a lamp post. Court officials worked overtime to catch up with the flood of cases. (RC/London Standard) ...While volunteers worked overtime to install more lamp posts.
