Who Ya Gonna Call?

Christian Devaux, 25, called police and reported a masked man with a rifle had broken into his Tolland, Conn., home. While on the phone, dispatchers heard Devaux yell “Hey!” and fire two shots. When officers arrived, they couldn’t find any evidence that anyone except Devaux had been in his home, and there was no sign of a break in. They found other inconsistencies: in Devaux’s sworn statement, he said the two shots were warning shots he fired over the intruder’s head, but the bullet holes were less than three feet off the floor. When confronted, Devaux allegedly told the officers “there are some things he just can’t explain, like seeing ghosts.” He explained he has been a “paranormal investigator” for “five or six” years, and said he used the “intruder” story because he didn’t want police to think he was insane. He was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, making a false statement to police, second degree reckless endangerment, misusing an emergency call, and disorderly conduct.
