II: When Roy Meadwell, 51, of Yeovil, Somerset, England, was dumped by his fiancée two years ago, he reacted badly: he was convicted of assaulting her, and the court issued a restraining order to keep him from contacting her, or even setting foot in the county where she lives. But Meadwell was arrested after scheming to get Kay Wimbury to come back to him. Using knowledge of her family, Meadwell sent Wimbury a message via a tarot shop in her town pretending to be her dead mother. “It was a message from beyond the grave imploring her to take Meadwell back,” the prosecutor said. Wimbury wasn’t fooled, and called police. Last year, Meadwell was convicted in a similar case with his next girlfriend. He denied breaking the Wimbury restraining order, but a jury found him guilty of four counts after only 38 minutes of deliberation. He was sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for two years, and the restraining order was reaffirmed. His solicitor assured the court that Meadwell was taking a “Building Better Relationships” class to keep him from re-offending.
