McDonald’s says it doesn’t know anything about an advertising sign proclaiming one of its fast-food restaurants is “coming soon” — to the middle of Australia’s Simpson Desert. At more than 175,000 sq km (68,000 sq mi), the national Conservation Park that sprawls across three states is the world’s largest sand dune desert. The large, professional-looking sign is 200 km in, planted in the top of a large dune, making it visible from a long distance. Behind the sign is a glass case with an “emergency bag” of burgers.
