Zero Tolerance for Zombies

Sean Small, 18, was playing “The Walking Dead: Our World” on his phone in the hallway at Scottsburg (Ind.) High School. That’s an “augmented virtual reality” game that uses real-life scenes through the phone’s camera, overlaid by generated zombies that the player has to “shoot” with the game controls. Only the player sees the game, but Small recorded a six-second video of the scene and posted it to Facebook. Uh oh: Small was punished by principal Ric Manns: suspension with recommendation for expulsion. That recommendation was upheld, and he’s out, but that wasn’t enough for Scott County prosecutors: they have filed criminal charges against him. It’s unclear what the charges are besides “intimidation,” but trial is scheduled for January, and Small faces up to a year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
