As God Is My Judge, Your Honor

A little girl in British Columbia, Canada, may be on the way to being adopted, in part because her parents didn’t have a lawyer at a hearing. The parents, however, said they did have a lawyer — the same person who was their judge and witness: Jesus Christ, who communicated with them in court through a toy stuffed lion. They spoke to him in tongues. The court issued a continuing care order, which can be a step toward adoption. The parents claimed religious discrimination, but an appellate judge upheld the decision. The judge had, she ruled, made his decision based on issues including domestic violence, the refusal of medical care for the girl, and “the parents’ resistance to working with ... those who could support them.” (AC/Vancouver Sun, CBC) ...Other than, of course, the stuffed lion.
