At Least They Know Their Cows
A resident brought a sad find to the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: a dead cat. “Your heart sinks as it is never an easy moment when we aren’t able to help an animal,” said manager Steve Byrne. Once they washed the mud off the body, however, it turned out to be something quite different: a dog puppet. Byrne says it’s far from the first such weird find turned in to the shelter on Guernsey, an island protectorate of the British crown. He provided “a few” examples: a “sick seal” and “dead dog” both turned out to be duvets, an “injured crow” was actually a black bag, a “stray pug” was actually a frog, an “injured bird” was a blonde wig, and a “hedgehog rescue” was actually a pine cone. Further, he notes, reported birds of prey “often” turn out to be pigeons. (RC/BBC, London Independent) ...Guernsey: the Florida of the British Isles.Original Publication Date: 24 July 2016
