Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

The Neptune Beach (Fla.) Police Dept. asked the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office to help them with an investigation — of one of their own officers, who was allegedly stealing money from people he pulled over for traffic stops late at night. Sheriff’s investigators set up a sting operation, and say Officer Chris Ortiz, 32, stole $805 in planted money from the bait car during the arrest. The officer was charged with grand theft, and allegedly admitted to the crime. Ortiz was in the news in March when the department praised him for helping the victim of a bicycle theft: it was the man’s only means of transportation, and Ortiz, the department said, bought the victim a new bike using his own money. (RC/WJXT Jacksonville, WTLV Jacksonville) ...How do they know he used his own money?
