Burton’s Lucky Day

On election day for the Bentley Board of Education in Burton, Mich., Lisa Osborn only needed one vote to win. But she didn’t get any — not from her husband, or even from herself. “I’ve never seen that happen before where a valid write-in candidate didn’t get a single vote,” said Doreen Fulcher, Genesee County elections supervisor. Osborn said she didn’t vote because she was at her son’s baseball game. She expected to get at least one vote from the plenty of people she thought would have “surely gone up there and voted.” Board of Education secretary Toby Bauldry said she was glad Osborn wasn’t elected because she couldn’t find the time to even go and vote for herself. “That’s understandable,” Osborn said in response. “I should probably come to more meetings and know more about what’s going on. It was a dumb move.” (JW/Flint Journal) ...Now that’ll get everyone’s vote.
