Can Anyone Vouch for Him?

West Fargo, N.D., police have a program to provide gasoline vouchers to people who have to get somewhere important, but can’t afford the gas to make the trip. Dalton Beyer, 19, of Charlestown, Ind., came into the police station and told officers he needed to get to Wisconsin to attend a funeral. When Beyer presented his car’s registration and insurance information, police were a tad suspicious: the car was registered to a service station 300 miles away. Officers called the owner, who told police that he had just noticed the car was missing. “That kind of put an end to any gas voucher that he was going to get,” a police spokesman said. It was also the end of Beyer’s freedom: he was arrested for vehicle theft. (JW/Fargo Forum) ...Naturally, Beyer then asked if he was eligible for a “bail voucher.”
