The Austin, Texas, Fire Department responded to a fire outside a tortilla chip factory. According to a statement the department posted on Facebook, several pallets of food waste from the chips had spontaneously combusted. As they fought the fire, more ignited while they were on the scene. Three days later, the department responded again when some more boxes spontaneously burst into flame. “The factory in question was trying out a new way to handle the waste from the chips that, suffice it to say, didn’t work out so well,” the department said. While they were there the second time, firefighters drowned all the other boxes that hadn’t burned yet to prevent future flare ups.
