Felony-Level Humbuggery
Volunteers at Toys for Tots noticed the same woman kept coming in for toys for disadvantaged children. Polk County (Fla.) Sheriff’s investigators say Tammy Strickland, 38, used 140 fictitious children’s names and 28 fictitious adult names on applications to the charity. She got so many toys that she showed up at the TfT warehouse with a trailer. “Children in need. ‘Toys for Tots.’ These things are synonymous with Christmas,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “Sadly, in this case, so is The Grinch.” Strickland is being charged with grand theft, 28 counts of providing false statements to obtain property, obtaining property by fraud, and 164 counts of possessing counterfeit or fictitious identification, as well as more counts for similar activities last Christmas. In all, she faces 248 felonies and 41 misdemeanors, and is being held on $30,000 bond. (RC/Bay News 9) ...With any luck, the bail bondsmen are all closed until after Christmas.Original Publication Date: 25 December 2016
