Edwin Smith, 68, of Shelby, N.C., popped out his back door to feed the squirrels — forgetting he had set up a shotgun as a booby trap in case anyone ignored his sign warning “crackheads, drug dealers and illegal aliens” to stay off his property. “I blew my arm off,” Smith calmly told a sheriff’s dispatcher when he called 911. “I’m going to die. I’m in the driveway, I’m going to die.” He didn’t die, thanks to a sheriff’s deputy stanching Smith’s severe bleeding with a tourniquet before medics arrived.
