Wring out the Heilman
Aaron Heilman was soaked, police say, and it got him sacked. He was in the driver’s seat of a car belonging to his employer, but he may not have been driving: he’d slumped down. And he’d only been working for three hours, after two days off. But he blew .22 percent on the Breathalyzer; .08 is enough for impairment. “His actions represented a safety issue for himself and the community,” said Baltimore, Md., interim police commissioner Gary Tuggle. “I simply won’t tolerate it.” So Tuggle fired Heilman, who is now a former Baltimore cop — and the former officer faces charges related to driving under the influence.
